2023 Pac-12 Women’s Soccer Coach of the Year - Margueritte Aozasa, UCLA

As voted on by the league’s 12 head coaches, the Pac-12 Conference announced the All-Pac-12 Women’s Soccer postseason honors for the 2023 season on Tuesday. UCLA, the now 14-time Pac-12 Champion, captured three major awards and a conference record-tying 10 All-Pac-12 honorees, with Reilyn Turner being named Forward of the Year, Lilly Reale repeating as Defender of the Year and Head Coach Margueritte Aozasa earning her second consecutive Head Coach of the Year award. Stanford's Jasmine Aikey and Ryan Campbell saw their first Pac-12 awards in the form of Midfielder of the Year for Aikey and Goalkeeper of the Year for Campbell. Rounding out the individual awards was USC's Maribel Flores earning the Freshman of the Year nod.

Of the award winners, Reilyn Turner, Jasmine Aikey and Lilly Reale were named to the 2023 MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List, the United Soccer Coaches 2023 Players to Watch List, and the Top Drawer Soccer National Preseason and Midseason rankings. Trojan freshman Maribel Flores also saw the TDS Midseason Top-100 Freshman list. 

PAC-12 FORWARD OF THE YEAR - Reilyn Turner, UCLA 

In her fourth season as a Bruin, Turner started all 18 games, tallying 10 goals and earning 26 points, good for second in the Pac-12. In October, the senior became the third Pac-12 athlete to score a hat trick this fall and was the fourth by the end of the regular season. Her 2023 performance bumped her up in the Bruins' rankings to fifth in career goals (42) and game-winning goals (16), third in career hat tricks (3) and just a point outside of being the sixth Bruin to achieve 100 career points. She had a huge hand in UCLA's almost perfect conference record, scoring two Pac-12 game-winners and going on a five-match scoring streak in the month of October. Alongside her fellow Bruins, she helped the team to the 10th most points per game (7.83) in the country and the most in the conference. Turner is the first Bruin to be named the Pac-12 Forward of the Year. 

PAC-12 MIDFIELDER OF THE YEAR - Jasmine Aikey, Stanford

Aikey helped the Cardinal to an unbeaten season going 15-0-4. From her midfield position, she led Stanford in goals (10) and points (26) while ranking second in assists (6) and scoring the conference’s fourth hat trick of the season. After finding the back of the net in the final two matches of the 2022 season, the sophomore has now scored in 10 of her last 21 matches, owning 15 goals in that time span. Her offensive performance this season has helped the Cardinal to the second highest goal differential in the conference and 12th-best in the country (41). On the defensive end, Aikey helped the Cardinal record a team goals-against-average that ranks fifth in the country (.474). Alongside her fellow Cardinal, the sophomore was a part of the only conference team to see the top-10 of the women’s soccer RPI rankings for the full season. Aikey is now the fourth Cardinal to earn the Midfielder of the Year award and first since 2019 (Catarina Macario).

PAC-12 DEFENDER OF THE YEAR - Lilly Reale, UCLA

Now a two-time Pac-12 Defender of the Year, Reale becomes the first athlete to win the award back-to-back and only the second to win multiple times in the award's history (Naomi Girma, STAN). After beginning the season as the conference’s highest ranked Top Drawer Soccer Preseason Top-100 member (No. 4), Reale led a Bruins’ defense that shutout 11 of their 18 opponents, holding 16 of them to single-digit shots and allowing two or less shots on five separate occasions. The junior was a key member of a Bruins defense that held the opposition to just 94 shots, with only 39 on goal, during the regular season compared to UCLA’s 374 (157). Her Bruins defense ranked second only to Stanford in the conference’s goals-against average (.611) and helped UCLA capture their 14th Pac-12 Championship. 

PAC-12 GOALKEEPER OF THE YEAR - Ryan Campbell, Stanford

In just her second year as Stanford's starting keeper, and fourth overall as a Cardinal, Campbell picked up her first Pac-12 Goalkeeper of the Year award. With a standout season, Campbell led the conference and was top-five in the nation in goals-against average (.450) on the season, allowing just seven goals in 15 matches. The senior spent the majority of 2023 topping the active NCAA DI record for career goals-against-average (.480) with 18 career goals allowed in 43 games, which ranks sixth in the conference record book and fourth in Cardinal history. Campbell went unbeaten on the season, adding 15 more matches to her now 29-game unbeaten streak. Allowing more than one goal on just three separate occasions, Campbell recorded nine shutouts including blanking four of the Cardinal’s seven ranked opponents and six conference foes. With four Player of the Week nods this season, she became the second keeper, and the third ever player, to win three consecutive weekly awards and is now just the second Stanford keeper to receive the Pac-12 Goalkeeper of the Year award (Jane Campbell, 2015). 

PAC-12 FRESHMAN OF THE YEAR - Maribel Flores, USC

In her debut season as a Trojan, Flores became the fifth Pac-12 Freshman of the Year to represent USC. Her 12 starts tied the program mark for most starts by a Trojan freshman, while she saw game time in all but one match. In her 16 appearances, Flores led the Trojan in goals (6) and points (18) and was second in assists (5), ranking in the top-10 of the conference’s total goals and points per game (1.06). Two of her goals came against ranked opponents in No. 4 Duke and No. 23 Washington State, with an assist against No. 2 UCLA and a game-winner coming against California in conference play to add to her freshman resume. At the conclusion of the regular season she was just one of two Trojan freshmen to score any points on the season.

PAC-12 COACH OF THE YEAR - Margueritte Aozasa, UCLA

For the second year in a row, UCLA’s Aozasa is the Pac-12 Coach of the Year, becoming the first female head coach to receive the honor in back-to-back seasons. She joins the ranks as the third UCLA head coach to earn the honor twice in her career and is one of four Bruin women to earn the title. After leading UCLA to a National Championship during her first season in 2022, Aozasa came back with a fury, guiding the team to a 16-1-1 record this season and a 14th Pac-12 Championship behind a 14-game unbeaten streak, a winning percentage that ranks third in the country (.917) and a scoring offense that ranks sixth (2.89). The second-year leader coached the likes of nine Players of the Week, including Quincy McMahon, who became the most decorated defensive player in conference history, and ten 2023 All-Conference members. Under her direction, the Bruins qualified for their eighth consecutive NCAA Tournament bid and second consecutive No. 1 seed. In her two years at the helm, Aozasa has led the team to 25 consecutive weeks in the United Soccer Coaches Top-25 rankings with 23 of those weeks being spent in the Top-5 and 13 at the No. 1 spot.
