PAC-12 SCHOLAR-ATHLETES OF THE YEAR

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Arizona graduate student Delaney Schnell was named the 2022-23 Women’s Swimming/Diving Scholar Athlete of the Year on Friday. The award, which is presented in each of the 24 sports the Pac-12 sponsors, was established to honor collegiate student-athletes who are standouts both academically and in their sports discipline.

A born and bred Tucson native, Schnell completed her undergraduate studies in 2022 with a degree in Psychological Sciences and a 3.815 cumulative GPA. In her postgraduate studies, Schnell has studied Clinical Speech & Language Pathology, recording a 4.00 GPA in her master's program. Her academic prowess led her to a 2022 CoSIDA Academic All-American honor and a 2022 CoSIDA Academic All-District 8 First Team honor. Alongside that, Schnell added three CSCAA Scholar All-American honors to her academic resume (‘18, ‘20, ‘22).

A decorated Pac-12 athlete, Schnell has spent all five years at Arizona, beginning her career with a Freshman Diver of the Year honor in 2018 before going on to be named the Pac-12 Diver of the Year two more times (2021, 2022). At the Conference level, the Wildcat is a five-time Pac-12 Champion, winning three consecutive titles in the 1-meter ('21-'23) and back-to-back titles in the platform ('21-'22), and owns the Arizona program records in the platform (383.35) and the 3-meter (388.70).

The nine-time All-American Diver (‘18-’22) has earned two bronze medals in the FINA World Championships in the Mixed 10-Meter Platform and the Women’s 10-Meter Platform as well as a silver medal in the 10-Meter Synchronized Platform.

Schnell also made some history at the Tokyo Olympics when she took home the silver in the Women’s Synchronized 10M Platform, America’s first ever medal in the event.

An active member of both Tucson and the greater diving community, Schnell has volunteered her time and her skills to multiple community programs as well as USA Diving and other national organizations.

Schnell is set to graduate in Spring of 2024 with her Master's Degree.
