BOULDER - University of Colorado junior center David Harrison officially announced today he is forgoing his senior year in 2004-05 and will opt for the NBA draft.

 

Harrison, the dominating 7'0" presence for the Buffaloes averaged 15.0 points, 8.0 rebounds and 2.6 blocked shots per game the last three seasons helping CU to a NCAA Tournament and NIT berth in 2002-03 and 2003-04, respectively. In his three seasons, Harrison helped CU win 51 games.

 

"I'm excited for the next stage of my life," Harrison said Tuesday morning. "I thought I had a good season and have a great opportunity to get selected in the first round," Harrison said. "The time is right for me to leave Colorado and I think I offer a lot to an NBA team with my size and physical ability."

 

The Nashville, Tenn. native and holder of all the blocked shots records to date at CU was a first-team All-Big 12 selection this season, in addition to being named to the 2004 All-Big 12 Coaches' First Team and to the conference All-Defense Specialty Team. In addition, he was named to the District 8 U.S. Basketball Writers of America All-District Team and an honorable mention Associated Press All-America selection. During the pre-season, he was named to the preseason Wooden and Naismith Award ballot lists.

 

Harrison finishes his career at Colorado 13th in scoring (1,317), first in field goal percentage (60.2), third in free throws attempted (613), fourth in rebounding by centers (707), eighth in rebounding (707), eighth in double-doubles (25), ninth in career fouls (300), ninth in career starts (81), and 14th in minutes played (2,480).

 

In the Big 12 Conference, Harrison is etched in its career record book as the second player in field goal percentage (60.2), second in free throw attempts (613), fourth in blocked shots (225), tied for sixth in block shot average (2.6), 10th in double-doubles (25), and 10th in free throws made (339).

 

In conference-only stats, Harrison is the all-time leader in field goal percentage (.589), second in free throw attempts (326), third in blocks (110), tied for sixth in block average (2.3), seventh in double-doubles (15), and ninth in rebounding (383).
