No. 14 Baylor Holds Off Colorado

BOULDER - Colorado's front-court combination of Kara Richards and Jackie McFarland combined for 42 points and 20 rebounds, but No. 14 ranked Baylor managed to hold off the Buffaloes 75-67 in a Big 12 Conference game Wednesday night at the Coors Events/Conference Center.

 

Colorado (11-15, 5-9) has now lost 22 straight games to ranked opponents and falls into a three-way tie for eighth place in the Big 12 standings with Texas and Missouri with two regular season games remaining. Baylor (24-4, 11-3) wins its fifth straight and remains in a first-place tie with Oklahoma and Texas A&M.

 

Richards tied a season-high with 22 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for her second career double-double. McFarland had 20 points and 10 rebounds for her 16th double-double of the season, second in the Big 12, and the 35th of her career.

 

Baylor guard Angela Tisdale led the Lady Bears with 18 points, including four 3-point field goals. Bernice Mosby, the Big 12's second leading scorer, had 16 points and 11 rebounds.

 

The Buffaloes hit six of their first 10 shots of the game and built a seven point lead midway through the first half at 27-20. Tisdale then hit a pair of 3-pointers and led the Bears on a 20-7 run in the final 9 minutes, 15 seconds of the first half, giving Baylor a 37-31 lead a the break.

 

Richards scored CU's first seven points of the second half as the Buffs whittled away at the Baylor advantage. She converted a traditional 3-point play as Baylor led just 40-38 with 16:25 remaining.

 

The Buffaloes took a 53-52 lead on a 3-pointer by Jasmina Ilic with 11:20 remaining, but Baylor answered on the other end with a Mosby layup, taking the lead for good. CU scored just six points over the final 8:21 of the contest.

 

Ilic finished the game with 14 points, five assists and two steals.

 

Colorado will host Kansas on Saturday, Feb. 24, at 7 p.m. at the Coors Events/Conference Center in its final home game of the 2006-07 season. The game will be televised live on Fox Sports Net Rocky Mountain.
