Men's Basketball Defeats Regis, 64-42

BOULDER Freshman guard Cory Higgins scored 15 of his 20 points in the first half leading the University of Colorado Buffaloes to a 64-42 victory Tuesday night in their final exhibition game at the Coors Events Center.

The Buffs took control of the game in the first half breaking open an18-16 margin with a 15-1 run behind a trio of 3-pointers from Higgins, a pair of dunks by Richard Roby and a jumper by Levi Knutson. The Buffs led at the break 33-17 behind eight steals, four of them by Higgins.

Roby added 17 points with nine rebounds, while senior guard Marcus Hall added 12 points. Junior forward Jermyl Jackson-Wilson also had 10 rebounds.

Regis was unable to find the bottom of the rim failing to score a basket in the last 5:07 of the first half and then the first 3:47 of the second (8:54). The Rangers went 5-for-17 from the field (29.4%) shooting in the first half and 14-for-40 (35.0%) overall.

Higgins making his first collegiate start made four-of-six field goals in the first half, in addition to grabbing four rebounds.

CU closed the exhibition season with 21-straight victories since 1999 and a 46-6 overall record.

Regis was led in the scoring column by Geremey Gibson with 13 points.

The Buffaloes continued its pace in the second half with another 15-1 run over the first nine minutes jumping out to 46-24 advantage.

CU opens the regular season this Friday, Nov. 9 at home against the University of New Mexico.
