Buffs Defeated by No. 3 Kansas, 69-45

Feb 16, 2008

LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) - Marcus Hall scored a game-high 15 points and Cory Higgins added nine, however the Jayhawks took control in the first half shooting 50 percent from the field taking a 69-45 victory, Saturday afternoon at Allen Fieldhouse.

Mario Chalmers had 13 points in the Jayhawks' 25th straight win at home over the Buffaloes (10-14, 2-8).

"We weren't very good from start to finish," said CU head coach Jeff Bzdelik on the AM 760 post-game show. "We didn't do anything that represented winning."

The Jayhawks (24-2, 9-2) solidified their slim lead in the Big 12 by scoring 23 points off turnovers and outrebounding the visitors 38-24.

Richard Roby was held to two points after averaging 18 points in three games at Allen Fieldhouse with a 30-point effort here last season. He missed his first seven shots and wound up 1-of-11 from the field. Roby's streak of 15 consecutive games of double figures came to an end (his longest string of games during his four-year career).

Kansas led 32-20 at halftime and put the game away with a 13-0 run in the second half. Brandon Rush played his third game without the heavy knee brace he wore after ACL surgery. Darnell Jackson had 12 points for Kansas.

Roby, who had one point in Colorado's season opener, failed to score in double figures for only the third time this season.

The Jayhawks, who had been only 4-of-26 from 3-point range in their previous two games, improved to 8-for-19 against the Buffaloes, who have lost 32 straight to ranked teams on the road.

A ragged start to the first half for Kansas was salvaged by a 9-0 run over the final minutes that led to the 12-point halftime lead.

Hall's basket shaved the lead to 23-18, but Sherron Collins hit a 3-pointer to ignite the run that was capped by a putback by Collins. Hall also grabbed a team-high six rebounds for the Buffs.

Arthur had eight points and Rush had seven points and seven rebounds.

Xavier Silas, who managed seven points, made one 3-pointer helping CU set a school record with five players to record at least 20 3-pointers apiece in a season. Hall (40), Roby (35), Cory Higgins (22), Levi Knutson (22) and Silas (20).

Colorado will return home to host Texas Tech on Wednesday, Feb. 20 at 7 p.m. The game will be broadcast on Fox Sports Net Rocky Mountain.
