Jendrian Nets Big 12 Honor

IRVING, Texas - University of Colorado junior Franziska Jendrian was selected Big 12 Women's Tennis Player of the Week for matches held April 14-20, announced Monday afternoon by the conference office. This is the first career player of the week accolade for Jendrian.

 

Jendrian won a pair matches over Oklahoma and Oklahoma State helping guide the Buffs to their first road series sweep over both Oklahoma schools in Colorado history. The match against the Sooners showcased a head-to-head matchup of the league's top two players at the No. 6 position as Jendrian defeated Tara Eckel, 6-3, 6-2 in a 7-0 sweep.

 

In the match against the Cowgirls, Jendrian dropped the first set to Jessica Collins, 6-4 before storming back and taking the last two sets while only giving up two points.

 

The 6-1 win over OSU was the fourth straight victory for Colorado as they wrapped up the No. 4 seed and a first-round bye in the Big 12 Tennis Championships held in College Station, Texas this weekend. CU will play the winner of No. 5 Kansas/No. 12 Iowa State, Friday, April 25, 11 a.m.

 

Jendrian, a junior from Rodleben, Germany has won five straight singles matches and her pair of weekend wins improves her spring record to 15-5 and 22-8 for the year ? both are team bests. She also concluded her conference regular season winning nine of 11 Big 12 matches.
