CU Celebrates National Girls & Women In Sports Day Sunday

Jan 21, 2010

BOULDER -- University of Colorado Athletics is celebrating National Girls and Women in Sports Day (NGWSD) on Sunday, Jan. 24, at the Coors Events/Conference Center beginning at 12 p.m. and invites all to be a part of the celebration.

The day was chartered by the U.S. Congress in 1986 to honor female athletic achievement and recognize the importance of sports and fitness participation for all girls and women.  We'd like to invite you to Colorado's celebration of NGWSD.

Prior to the CU women's basketball game on Sunday all kids (boys and girls) in 8th grade and under are invited to participate in a Skills & Fitness Challenge on the Coors Events Center concourse from 12-1 p.m.  During the challenge kids will meet CU student-athletes from golf, volleyball, track & field, tennis, soccer, and more.  The first 700 kids (8th grade and under) who complete the challenge will earn a free commemorative tee shirt.

Following the skills challenge on the concourse the CU student-athletes will sign autographs from 1-1:30 p.m.  Then stick around and cheer on the Buffaloes as they face the No. 12 ranked Oklahoma State Cowgirls at 2 p.m.

All activities are FREE for kids and adults including the women's basketball game.  To receive free general admission you must enter the Coors Events Center through the northwest entrance between 12 and 1 p.m.   After 1 p.m. free admission is not available.
