BERKELEY - With a 3.29 cumulative GPA, the Cal women's cross country team has earned All-Academic team honors for the 2009 season.

A total of 176 programs across the country received the academic recognition, which is sponsored by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

For a team to be considered for the All-Academic Team award, it must have competed and compiled a team score at an NCAA regional championship and have a minimum 3.00 team cumulative GPA. The Golden Bears were eighth at the NCAA West Regional meet.

Earlier in the week, sophomore Deborah Maier was chosen to the USTFCCCA All-Academic squad as an individual. A political science major with a 3.771 GPA, she placed 14th at the regional championships.
