Dec 16, 2010

BOULDER - University of Colorado tennis head coach Nicole Kenneally announced the signing of Ashley Tiefel to a National Letter of Intent (NLI) for the 2011-12 academic year.

Tiefel (Leawood, Kan.) tallied a 26-1 record during her senior year and capped it off by winning the Kansas 5A High School State Singles Championship. In addition to winning the state title as a senior, she also helped Blue Valley High School win the state team title, the first in school history.

"We are all very excited that Ashley has joined the Buffalo family," Kenneally said. "Ashley will make an immediate impact on this team on-and-off-the court, and we are looking forward to having her on campus.

"Ashley has had a lot of junior success which was recently capped off with her winning the Kansas High School title and we only see an even brighter future for Ashley in the years ahead."

Tiefel finished third in the 6A state tournament during her junior year, fourth in her sophomore season, and fifth as a freshman. She won 90 singles matches over her four-year prep career becoming the school's all-time singles winner. Tiefel also holds the school mark for most doubles victories.

Tiefel is a four-star recruit, ranked in the top three in her section of the United States Tennis Association, and ranked in top 110 nationally.

She is also a member of the Kansas City United Tennis Academy under the direction of Elliott McDermed.

Tiefel is interested in business marketing or management at CU.
