The Walk to London 2012 program, a series of 20 walks held in communities around the United States, are behind held to celebrate the Olympic and Paralympic Movements and highlight the importance of regular exercise and a commitment to lifelong fitness ahead of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The goal of Walk to London 2012 is to get as many people as possible to walk in their community Walk to London 2012 event so that the total number of miles walked by all the participants will equal the distance from Los Angeles, a two-time host city of the Olympic Games, to London, another two time host city (soon to be the only city in history to host the Games three times). We need thousands of people to help us reach our goal. Our Olympic Team is going to London to represent the US, let's get behind them in our own way by "walking to London!"

In order to promote Pac-12 Olympic sports and support Olympians and Paralympians competing in the summer games in London, the Pac-12 encourages institutions to create a team comprised of student-athletes, alumni, former Olympians, Special Olympic athletes in the area and community members to participate in the remaining walks.

"These walks are a great opportunity to celebrate the Olympic and Paralympic spirit ahead of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games this summer," said Willie Banks, President of the USOA and three-time Olympian (1980, '84, '88). "The USOA and our Olympic and Paralympic athletes are eager to join with our communities to celebrate the power of the Olympic and Paralympic Movement, inspire the youth who will be our next generation of Team USA athletes, and highlight the importance of fitness. Walk to London 2012 will be a first step in this program and we plan to host similar events ahead of future Games as well."

Walk to London 2012 events will be organized and led by the Olympians and Paralympians who make up the twenty Olympian Alumni Chapters located around the U.S. The first walk is scheduled for April 7th in Los Angeles as part of World Health Day LA activities. Walks will then continue each weekend in communities across the United States where Olympic Alumni Chapters are located, culminating in a final walk on June 23rd in Washington D.C. in honor of International Olympic Day.
