Roundup: Cal has the best new unis in football

Jul 10, 2013

Those snazzy new Cal uniforms did not go unrecognized by Lost Lettermen, as the site rated Cal's football uniform redesign as the best in the nation. They'll look good putting up a lot of points in the Bear Raid in that gear.

Don't expect Paul Ratcliffe's club to slide anytime soon, especially when the top women's soccer scorer in the nation transfers to Stanford. She would be Taylor Uhl, who scored 21 goals and tallied 51 points over the course of the 2012 season for Minnesota. Just what a team that has been to five straight College Cups (NCAA soccer's Final Four, if you will) needs, right?

Sweet! I have approximately nine months to become a female, beg the NCAA Clearinghouse for a year of eligibility and learn how to bump, set and spike so I can become a member of Arizona State's inaugural sand volleyball team in 2014. The Forks become the sixth Pac-12 school to sponsor sand volleyball, joining all the Cali schools and Arizona.

How 'bout this juicy Twitter news- the Pac-12 Conference has relaunched its Twitter handle @pac12, while you can follow the Pac-12 Networks separately at @Pac12Networks. If you followed the old @pac12, you now follow @Pac12Networks and will have to re-follow the @pac12 account. It's been up one day and @pac12 already has more than 500 more followers than me. Where did I go wrong in life?

You can check off current Miami Dolphins defensive tackle Paul Soliai as the next former Ute to donate to the football program, reportedly giving 250 grand to the new football center for the Paul and LeTasha Soliai Player Lounge. Man, that's gotta be some player lounge.

Don't worry about Steve Alford bolting Westwood, because Alford's buyout at UCLA is a staggering $10.4 million if he leaves or gets fired before April 30, 2016.

Feel free to vote for USC as ESPN's ultimate team of the last 25 years. Currently the No. 2 seed, the Trojans could be the victim of a major upset, with 15th-seeded Auburn currently leading by a slim margin. Here is USC's ultimate team roster, featuring the likes of Troy Polamalu and Matt Leinart. In actual news, former UNLV guard Katin Reinhardt has officially transferred to USC. Per transfer rules, he will have to sit out the 2013-14 season and will have three seasons of eligibility remaining come 2014-15.

No surprise here: Washington tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins was named to the John Mackey Award Watch List for the nation's top tight end in college football. Dude is one of seven Pac-12 tight ends on the Mackey watch list.

Professional baseball owns the month of July, and there might be a few future MLB pitchers who did their collegiate work in Tucson, if these four former Arizona Wildcat pitchers being named to the Triple-A All-Star Game is any indication: Preston Guilmet, Jason Stoffel, Cory Burns (already has MLB experience) and Brad Mills.

With four Oregon baseball players opting to go pro with college eligibility still remaining, some Ducks heed the call of pro ball.

Despite its recent struggles, Colorado football's season ticket renewals are up to 85 percent. That's a pretty good job by the sales and marketing department in Boulder.

Let's link to another link roundup of sorts so you can read what they're saying about Jacquizz Rodgers and Steven Jackson on the Atlanta Falcons. NFL training camp is fast approaching, y'all.

Oh yes, and an update on Travis Long. The former Cougar buck linebacker did not get drafted in April and is recovering from a torn ACL he suffered from at the end of last season.
