Let's stay in Russia for a bit, because USC women's tennis player Sabrina Santamaria advanced to the World University Games singles final against Japan's Sachie Ishizu. Santamaria is the first American female to reach the World University Games final in singles tennis in 30 years.

In the world of college football, they are still not done with announcing these preseason watch lists. The Pac-12 was all over the Butkus Award watch list, the award given to the nation's top linebacker. Leading the way from the Pac-12 on that list was UCLA's trio of Anthony Barr, Eric Kendricks and Jordan Zumwalt. In fact, the Bruins are tied with BYU for most Butkus Award watch list selections. Additionally, Xavier Su'a-Filo made the Lombardi Award watch list, an honor that goes to the top down lineman in the country.

Speaking of the Lombardi Award watch list, Ben Gardner and David Yankey are on it from Stanford.

You know what Berry Tramel of The Oklahoman thinks? That Oregon's Mark Helfrich was the best coaching hire in college football for this upcoming season.

Anthony Gimino is counting down the top 50 players in Arizona football history, and No. 49 is Hubie Oliver. A running back in Tucson from 1977-80, he is fifth on the school's all-time rushing list with 3,096 yards.

Watch out there, Tucson Citizen, for the Arizona Republic is doing a list of the top 50 players in Arizona State football history, and No. 49 on Doug Haller's list for the Forks is running back Gerald Riggs. He's 11th on the school's all-time rushing list with 2,097 yards on the ground

This, from a few days ago: Now-former Utah baseball player Trey Nielsen signed with the St. Louis Cardinals and will forgo his senior season in Salt Lake City. He was drafted as a pitcher in the 30th round.
