VOLLEYBALL CONTINUES AFTER OPENING WITH SWEEPING SUCCESS

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - The non-conference schedule continues this weekend for Pac-12 volleyball after the 12 league teams saw an impressive start to their 2013 campaign. The Pac-12 Networks are slated to broadcast the first volleyball matches of the season on Tuesday evening as No. 12 OREGON takes on Portland State. No. 2 STANFORD’s match against Pacific will also be televised on Wednesday night … All but two Conference teams will participate in tournament play against some of the nation’s top teams over the course of the weekend, including two of the historically toughest tournaments in the Wahine Volleyball Classic and the Nike Volleyball Big Four Classic … Four nationally-ranked teams are poised to take on Pac-12 opponents in the upcoming schedule. No. 20 Michigan State faces both Oregon and OREGON STATE. No. 10 UCLA will have a top-25 matchup as they travel to face No. 9 Hawai’i on their home turf. Stanford’s weekend will prove to be a challenge as it competes against No. 8 Florida and No. 6 Texas in the Nike Volleyball Big Four Classic … UCLA’s Karsta Lowe was named the Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week. Utah’s Erin Redd-Brandon earns the program’s first-ever weekly honor and was tabbed the Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week, while USC’s Ebony Nwanebu was voted Pac-12 Freshman of the Week … Three teams remain ranked in the top five of the AVCA Coaches poll (No. 2 Stanford, No. 3 USC and No. 5 Washington), while the Bruins move into the top 10 and the Ducks are No. 12.
