No. 4 Cal MWP Upends No. 13 LMU, 17-7

SAN DIEGO, CALIF. – No. 4 ranked Cal (3-0) continued its strong offense at the Triton Invitational, defeating No. 13 Loyola Marymount, 17-7, Sunday (Sept. 8) morning in the Golden Bears’ third game of the tournament. Cal had 12 different players score against the Lions, including two goals apiece from Hunter Gettelfinger, Colin Mulcahy, Aleksa Saponjic, Luka Ivanovic, and Thomas Carrol. Senior goalie Michael Boggan had nine saves.

No. 4 Cal MWP Powers Past No. 17 UC Davis, 15-4

SAN DIEGO, CALIF. – Led by four goals by freshman Chandler Jarrels-Stickney, No. 4 ranked Cal finished 4-0 at the Triton Invitational with a 15-4 victory over No. 17 UC Davis Sunday (Sept. 8) in the Golden Bears’ final match of the tournament in San Diego. Earlier Sunday, Kirk Everist’s squad had defeated No. 13 Loyola Marymount, 17-7, and on Saturday had dominated Redlands, 21-3, and powered past host UC San Diego, 13-10. Cal finished the two-day invite outscoring its opponents, 66-24.

Stanford Completes Weekend Sweep

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Third-ranked Stanford men’s water polo picked up wins over No. 10 St. Francis Brooklyn and MIT Sunday to conclude a 4-0 weekend at the Bruno Fall Classic in Providence, R.I. The Cardinal (4-0) opened the day with a 17-1 win over St. Francis Brooklyn before closing the tournament with a 24-5 win over MIT. Stanford next sees action at the NorCal Invitational from Sept. 21-22 in Berkeley. 

No. 2 UCLA Improves to 4-0 with Two Wins at Triton Invitational

LOS ANGELES — The No. 2 UCLA men's water polo team improved to 4-0 on the season with a pair of lopsided victories today at the Triton Invitational. The Bruins defeated Cal Lutheran 21-7 and No. 11 UC San Diego 16-6. Junior Paul Reynolds led the Bruins in both games today, scoring three goals in each victory.

No. 1 USC Scores 50 Goals In Two Wins Today

LA JOLLA, CALIF. — The top-ranked USC men's water polo team displayed a ferocious offensive onslaught today in two final wins at the Triton Invitational in La Jolla. The Trojans' winning start to 2013 grew to 4-0 with today's victory over No. 13 Air Force and Redlands, as USC amassed 50 goals in the two wins. The Trojans now hold a 35-game win streak that dates back to 2011.
