Block Party Leads the Wildcats Past Portland State, 3-1

TUCSON, Ariz. – The Arizona volleyball team had three players record double-doubles and the Cats recorded a season-high 20.5 blocks to defeat Portland State, 3-1 (22-25, 25-17, 25-19, 31-29), Friday night on day two of the Outrigger Hotels and Resorts Volleyball Challenge in Honolulu.  

No. 14 Illinois Moves Past Volleyball, 3-2

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — Arizona State volleyball dropped its first match of the year against No. 14 Illinois Friday morning, 3-2, in the second game of the Illini Classic. The Sun Devils are now 7-1 overall while Illinois is 4-2.

Volleyball Upsets Defending NCAA Champion No. 2 Texas

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — Arizona State volleyball (8-1) dominated the defending NCAA Champion and second-ranked Texas 3-0, handing the Longhorns their first sweep of the season in the Sun Devils finale match in the Illini Classic Friday, Sept. 13.

No. 23 Cal Sweeps Santa Clara

BERKELEY – The No. 23 Cal women’s volleyball team made it seven straight sweeps to begin 2013 on Friday night, taking care of Santa Clara 25-20, 25-22, 25-17 at the Hilton Garden Inn Invitational at Haas Pavilion. That’s 21 straight sets the Bears have taken to start the season. The school record for consecutive sets won is 30, established back in 2011.

Buffs Win Five-Set Thriller Over Appalachian State

WACO, Texas — Three Buffs hammered double-digit kills as the University of Colorado volleyball team defeated Appalachian State 3-2 (23-25, 25-15, 21-25, 25-23, 15-12) on Friday morning at the Baylor Invitational at Ferrell Center.

WACO, Texas —The University of Colorado volleyball team swept Northwestern State (25-20, 25-21, 25-16) to record its seventh straight win of the 2013 season on Friday night at the Baylor Invitational.

FRESNO, Calif. – A deep display of attacking helped the No. 20 Oregon volleyball team (5-3) defeat CSU Bakersfield in straight sets, 25-23, 25-22, 25-18, at the Fresno State Classic, Friday.

Defoe Breaks School Record In VB's Sweep

PORTLAND – Becky Defoe made sure her record-breaking dig counted during the Oregon State volleyball team’s win over Toledo Friday night at the Chiles Center. Oregon State’s libero set the school record for career digs on her seventh of the night as the Beavers closed out the first set. The senior dug a ball that ended up as a kill by sophomore Sara Almen, sending the Beavers to a 25-14 victory. That set the tone for the Beavers’ three-set win, which saw OSU take set two, 25-19, and set three, 25-16.

Cardinal Nabs Two Wins

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The No. 8 Stanford women’s volleyball team defeated Yale (25-17, 25-20, 25-18) and Army (25-15, 25-17, 25-17), Friday, in the Service Academy Challenge at the Pentagon Athletic Center in Washington, D.C. The Cardinal improves to 5-2 on the season, while the Bulldogs fell to 2-2 and the Black Knights dropped to 3-6.

11th-Ranked Bruins Stave Off Upset-Minded Northridge Squad in Five

DENVER, Colo. — The 11th-ranked Bruins were put to the test on Friday night at the Denver Invitational, winning the first two sets, dropping the next two, but winning the deciding fifth to post a victory over Cal State Northridge. Junior Karsta Lowe led all players with 19 kills, hitting .412 and adding five blocks. Set scores were 27-25, 25-23, 20-25, 22-25, 15-12.

No. 9 San Diego Upends No. 1 USC in Four-Set Stunner

SAN DIEGO — The No. 1-ranked USC women's volleyball team (6-1) was upset in four sets, 25-23, 20-25, 25-22, 25-19, by No. 9 San Diego (5-1) in the USD Tournament at Jenny Craig Pavilion on Friday, Sept. 13. Despite 13 kills (2e, 36att, .306) from freshman outside hitter Ebony Nwanebu and 11 kills (0e, 19att, .579) and seven blocks from senior middle blocker Alexis Olgard, the Women of Troy dropped their first decision of the season.

Utah Volleyball Improves to 8-0, Downs UC Irvine

OREM, Utah — Junior outside hitter Chelsey Schofield turned in her third double-double on the year and the 24th of her career as the University of Utah volleyball team picked up its eighth consecutive victory over UC Irvine (25-22, 25-19, 12-25, 25-15) in four sets on Friday afternoon during the first match of the Wolverine Classic at the UVU Activities Center.

No. 6 Huskies Play Spoiler At No. 14 Illinois

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – For the second time this season, the Husky volleyball team set the stage nicely for the Husky football team, as sixth-ranked Washington knocked off 14th-ranked Illinois tonight at Huff Hall by a count of 25-21, 22-25, 25-19, 25-13. Krista Vansant’s double-double led the way, as the Dawgs will now head to Chicago to cheer on the football team at Soldier Field on Saturday.

Volleyball Defeats Jackson State 3-0

HUNTSVILLE, Texas — The Washington State volleyball team’s record remains unblemished at 8-0 after the Cougars defeated Jackson State (1-9) 25-12, 25-19, 25-18 Friday afternoon at the Sam Houston Invitational tournament in the Johnson Coliseum in Huntsville, Texas.
