WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - STANFORD forward Jordan Morris was voted the Pac-12 men’s soccer Player of the Week for the week of Sept. 24-30, the Conference office announced today.
Morris, a freshman from Mercer Island, Wash., scored the first two goals of his collegiate career, including the overtime winner, in Stanford’s 2-1 victory at UC Santa Barbara. Morris scored the opening goal of the match, a header off of a Cardinal free kick, then netted the game-winner five minutes into overtime in front of a hostile crowd of 7,750. Stanford has now won five straight matches, its longest streak since winning six in a row in 2009, when it reached the round of 16 in the College Cup. The Cardinal is 5-1-1 overall heading into Conference play this weekend.
The honor is Morris’ first-career weekly nod. It marks Stanford’s 17th overall player of the week selection and is its second-consecutive weekly accolade.
The Cardinal opens Conference play this weekend, hosting Washington on Thurs., Oct. 3 and Oregon State on Sun., Oct. 6. Both matches will be televised live on the Pac-12 Networks.
Pac-12 Networks will feature the Cardinal six more times this season. Pac-12 men’s soccer will have 28 matches overall air on the Pac-12 Networks. For the full television schedule, visit www.pac-12.com.
