WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - The Pac-12 proved to be one of the most exciting conferences in collegiate volleyball after a weekend of close matches and historic upsets ... Three matches this upcoming weekend are between top-25 teams, including Friday night’s matchup between No. 23 UCLA and No. 22 Oregon that will be televised on ESPNU ... League teams spread further across the weekly poll, with USC claiming the top spot in the AVCA Coaches poll for the second time this season after WASHINGTON dropped from first to No. 6 overall. ARIZONA STATE, OREGON and STANFORD all dropped only one spot, with the Devils going from 15th to 16th, the Ducks from 21st to 22nd and the Cardinal from seventh to eighth. UCLA is ranked No. 23, while CALIFORNIA and COLORADO both received votes ... Last Friday featured three upsets with the Buffs knocking off the then-No. 1 team in the nation in WASHINGTON. It was the second win in a week over a ranked opponent for Colorado and the first time since 2006 the team has posted three-straight league wins. CALIFORNIA earned a historic victory over No. 16 UCLA, sweeping the Bruins at Pauley Pavilion for the first time in team history, and ARIZONA topped then-No. 21 OREGON for the Wildcats’ first upset of the season. The upsets did not end there, as the Ducks bounced back with their first win over a ranked opponent this year, upsetting then-No. 15 ASU ... The Trojans swept the Conference’s weekly awards after their dominant performance last weekend. Alexis Olgard was tabbed Offensive Player of the Week, her first-career weekly nod. Natalie Hagglund earned her fourth-career Defensive Player of the Week award, and Ebony Nwanebu was voted Freshman of the Week for the third time this season ... In the NCAA stats, the Cardinal leads the nation with a 3.10 blocks per set average. Stanford hosts UTAH this Friday in what is sure to be a defensive battle as the Utes have been one of the top blocking teams in the nation the last three years and rank 12th this week in blocks per set (2.83).
