Wildcats Fall to USC in Dual Meet

TUCSON, Ariz. The Arizona men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams were defeated by USC at Hillenbrand Aquatic Center on Saturday afternoon. The Wildcat men fell 172-128 and the women were defeated by a 167-133 margin.

Bonnie Brandon and Margo Geer each took first in three individual races to pace the Wildcats. Brandon won the 1000 freestyle (10:04.50), 200 backstroke (1:56.72) and 500 freestyle (4:49.56). Meanwhile, Geer won the 200 free (1:48.41), 50 free (22.57) and the 100 free (48.83).

Emma Schoettmer also had an impressive day as she won two events. She won the 200 breast in 2:11.98, finishing more than two seconds ahead of the second-place finisher, while also taking the 100 breast in 1:01.65.

Giles Smith, Kevin Cordes and Rafael Quintero won both of their individual events for the men’s team. Smith won the 100 yard butterfly (47.04) and 50 yard freestyle (19.99). The 19.99 is currently a top-five time in the country. Cordes took both the 100 (53.96) and 200 (1:58.12) breaststroke. Meanwhile, Quintero won both the 1m and 3m diving events.

The Wildcats also got a victory from Michael Sheppard as he won the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:47.47.

The Divers will be back in action as they host the Arizona Diving Invitational Nov. 21-24th. The women’s Swim team will be back in action against Boise State Nov. 23 at noon at Hillenbrand Aquatic Center.
