Softblog: Happy New Year

Hi Card Fans!

I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season and is ready to start the New Year! We are all finally back on campus and ready to kick off the 2014 school year and season. The past few days we have been getting back into the swing of things with both school and softball.

I do have to mention, that before we left for break the coaches gave us some early presents … our new gloves! (And can I just say they look awesome!) So all of us spent much of our time during break breaking in our new presents. With that being said, winter break was great and we all had a good time with our families and friends at home, but we are happy to be back at Stanford and eager to begin our journey toward a national championship!

It’s crazy to think that in 29 days our season officially starts in Phoenix at the Kajikawa Classic! After successfully conquering the beep test and smiling pretty for our pictures on picture day, we are ready to get back to work. These next 29 days cannot go by any quicker – we are all so excited for the season to finally start. All of those hours of practice, weights and conditioning are about to pay off!

One thing we will be doing this next week is setting our personal and team goals for the season. It’s important to not only set goals as a team but as individuals in order to hold ourselves accountable to improve every practice. It takes each and every person being on the same page to form a successful team and setting goals is just one of the ways we do this at Stanford. We all know what our ultimate goal is and we are definitely capable of achieving it.

So as we start our first week of practice and a brand new season, we would like to wish you a Happy New Year and we can’t wait to see you out at our first tournament Feb. 6-9!

Kayla Bonstrom was the 2013 Pac-12 Freshman of the Year, an NFCA Second Team All-West Region selection and earned First Team All-Pac-12 honors. She started 57 games and led the team with a .404 batting average and 55 RBI. Her first collegiate home run was a grand slam.
