Season 2 of The 12 Best series to debut this Friday with Fall Flashbacks, the best fall season moments of 2013

Jan 16, 2014

You may get goose bumps, you might shed a tear. This Friday, tune into Pac-12 Networks to relive some of the biggest moments of the fall season, whether it was the game you rushed the field or the play that made you pull your hair out.

Sure, football just ended, but season two of The 12 Best is back this Friday, January 17 at 10:00 p.m. PT. The colorful list show, hosted by Ashley Adamson and Mike Yam, takes fans back to the 2013 fall season counting down the most exciting finishes, incredible plays and outstanding athletes.

“The 12 Best was created last year to commemorate the successful seasons and teams by doing a season review for Football and other Olympic Sports,” explained Monica Burke, Pac-12 Networks Programming Manager. “We wanted to create a yearbook show to take fans back in time to remember all of their favorite moments, games and players from the previous season.”

Each episode of The 12 Best represents a unique category. The first episode, Fall Flashbacks of 2013, is dedicated to the best Olympic sports moments during the fall season. Other episodes are devoted to Football Players of 2013, Football Games of 2013 and Football Plays of 2013.

This show is a fun way to package the season and give Pac-12 Networks’ opinion on some of the best games, moments, and athletes,” said Bob Schmelzle, Pac-12 Networks Studio Producer. “One of the best parts is the great sound bites from our analysts and other talent. When we ask them about a particular game, you can see the light bulb go off.”

The show recaptures these memories from several perspectives. The producers merge multiple video angles, different play-by-play calls and include the unique memories from various analysts, coaches and players.

“Fans get to relive some of the best moments of the season and hear it from the player’s viewpoint. You get to hear Myles Jack talk about what was going through his head when Jim Mora threw him into the offense,” hinted Chris Hunt, Pac-12 Networks Associate Producer. “While the show highlights individuals and teams of the Pac-12, there is also a sense of conference camaraderie. Players often give credit to his or her teammates or even rival players – Kadeem Carey gives a huge shout out to Will Sutton.”

In an attempt to be democratic, the selection of top plays, games and players was decided by Pac-12 Networks staff and the broadcast teams. After the top 12 were selected, Pac-12 Networks staffers debated over which should receive the number one honor.

“It was surprisingly difficult to select only 12 moments from the fall season. How can you decide which of the three national championships gets the number one spot for best fall moment?” said Frank Martin, Pac-12 Networks Features Producer.

Fall Flashbacks of 2013 is the first episode of its kind. Fans can expect to see future episodes with highlights from winter and spring Olympic sports totaling 12 total episodes for the second season.

“This show is a lot of fun because we’re able to give the Olympic sports some love. In fall, football tends to be king, but it’s awesome to highlight some of the best teams in the Pac-12 Conference. It’s nice to remind everyone about Ed Cheserek, the freshman cross country runner who won the NCAA individual title or the fact that USC won their sixth-straight national championship,” said Schmelzle.

“Last year, The 12 Best episodes included the top games from men’s and women’s soccer and women’s volleyball. This year we wanted to include all fall moments so we could highlight sports like cross country, field hockey and water polo,” Martin added.

While many of the biggest plays from the last four months made the cut, some huge moments have surprisingly been excluded. Fans have to tune in to see if their favorite memory, team or athlete made the cut. Below is The 12 Best premiere dates for all new fall episodes.
