Pac-12 announces gymnastics weekly honors

Jan 21, 2014

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - The Pac-12 Conference office announced today the Pac-12 women’s gymnastics weekly honors for the week of Jan. 13-19. STANFORD’s Kristina Vaculik was named the Gymnast of the Week, UTAH’s Georgia Dabritz was voted Specialist of the Week, and STANFORD’s Rachel Daum was selected as the Freshman/Newcomer of the Week.

Vaculik, a Ontario, Canada, native, earned three victories this weekend, defeating Arizona and Sacramento State at home. The redshirt junior’s two first-place finishes in the bars (9.925) and floor (9.925) tied her collegiate bests. Her score of 39.425 was a personal best and earned Vaculik her first collegiate all-around win. Her big performance on bars came after Stanford suffered a missed routine.

Utah junior Georgia Dabritz earned her second-consecutive Specialist of the Week honor as the Utes beat the Golden Bears in Berkeley last Friday, 196.875-196.275. The Newburyport, Mass., native tied for first place on bars scoring 9.90 and took the title on floor with 9.95. Dabritz has won four of her six events this season with a team high on bars  (9.95) and floor (9.95).

Cardinal freshman Rachel Daum made significant contributions to Stanford’s victory over the Wildcats and Sacramento State. Daum began the day scoring 9.875 on the vault tying for fourth. With Stanford in second place entering the final rotation, Daum delivered a floor routine that earned a 9.90, tying for third. The freshman from Katy, Tx., was able to help lift the Cardinal over the Wildcats with a final score of 195.925-195.850.

This is Vaculik’s first Gymnast of the Week honor and Stanford’s 25th all-time. This marks the third time that Georgia Dabritz has received the Specialist of the Week honor. It is Daum’s first Newcomer of the Week honor and Stanford’s first ever Newcomer of the Week honor since the award was introduced last year.

Gymnast of the Week has been selected every week of the season since 2001. The Specialist of the Week award was added in 2008. It is the second year for Freshman/Newcomer of the Week.
