Logan a Hall of Famer

STANFORD, Calif. – Eleanor Logan, a Stanford graduate and former student-athlete for the women’s rowing team, has been chosen as one of nine inductees to the Maine Sports Hall of Fame.

“Elle’s accomplishments over the past six years are simply amazing,” said Stanford head coach Yasmin Farooq. “As a Stanford undergrad she set school, conference and NCAA records while helping Stanford win its first ever NCAA Varsity Eight and Team Title. This kind of success for a college rower, much less an athlete in any sport, is unprecedented.”  

Logan will be enshrined on May 4th at the 39th annual awards banquet held at the Augusta Civic Center. She is a two-time Olympic gold medalist, capturing the top honor with the U.S. women’s eight in 2008 at Beijing and in 2012 at London. She is currently preparing for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

“Her love of the sport continues to fuel the fire for a third Olympic appearance, and her love of Stanford has inspired her to share her journey and experience with our current team,” said Farooq. “We’re proud to have her as an active alum and wish her the best as she rows towards Rio in 2016!”

While at Stanford, Logan helped lead the Cardinal to the 2009 National Championship in Cherry Hill, N.J., guiding the varsity eight to a gold medal finish.

Logan will be joined in this year’s hall of fame class by George Mitchell, Julia Faith Dawson Clukey, Jack Cosgrove, Joseph Ferris, Edward Flaherty, William Green, Steven Pound and Abigail Spector. The list consists of an international statesman, two Olympians, two College World Series competitors, a two-time sportscaster of the year, a seven-time Maine amateur golf champion, a high school basketball star who averaged 40 points per game and a football coach who holds a record for wins in his program’s history.
