Pac-12 softball faces weekend of tough competition

After continuing the season in dominant fashion, Pac-12 softball faces a slew of ranked foes this weekend, as league teams will play 17 games against ranked opponents throughout the week. Seven of the Conference’s nine teams will compete in the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic between Cathedral City and Palm Springs, Calif., with ARIZONA STATE remaining at home to host the Diamond Devil Invitational and UTAH taking a bye week ... Conference teams have established themselves as some of the best in the nation, as seen in the national rankings. WASHINGTON remained at No. 3 in the NFCA poll but slid up to No. 2 in USA Softball’s rankings, while Arizona State moved up one spot in both polls to fourth. OREGON advanced to No. 6/8, UCLA moved to No. 8/9, and STANFORD came in at No. 13/11. ARIZONA made the most impressive jump, leaping from No. 24/25 to 14th in both polls ... Pac-12 teams have gone 79-14 in non-conference play thus far, winning 34 games in less than seven innings and recording 25 shutouts so far ... Weekly accolades for play from Feb. 10-16 went to Washington’s Kylee Lahners for Player of the Week and Oregon’s Cheridan Hawkins for Pitcher of the Week.
