Pac-12 Men's Basketball Tournament Post-Game Notes: #2 UCLA (84), #6 Stanford (59)

With this win, UCLA advances to the Tournament Championship game for the second year in a row and the fifth time in the history of the Tournament.

UCLA improves their overall record this season to 25-8, their 23rd 25-win season in program history and sixth 25-win season in the last 10 years. Also, this is UCLA’s 48th 20-win season in program history.

UCLA shot a season-high .652 today, going 30-of-46 and outscoring Stanford 84-59.

UCLA dominated the paint, out-rebounding Stanford, 35-22, outscoring Stanford in the paint, 40-26, and also outscoring Stanford on the fast-break 12-4.

Stanford struggled to score tonight. shooting just 39% from the field on just 20-of-51 FGs. They scored only 59 points, and this is their fourth-lowest point total of the season.

Stanford ends the season 21-12, their 21st 20-win season in program history. It is also the third 20-win season under current Head Coach Johnny Dawkins.

Stanford’s Chasson Randle, who is Stanford’s leading scorer on the season (Avg 19.0 PPG), struggled tonight shooting just 5-of-11 from the field, scoring 11 points, while also picking up just three rebounds and one assist.

UCLA had three players in double figures tonight. Norman Powell led the team in scoring for just the fifth time (22 pts), while Kyle Anderson put up a well-rounded game scoring 13 points on 6-of-10 shooting from the field, and also picking up eight rebounds and seven assists.

Fifth-year senior Travis Wear was a perfect 8-of-8 from the field putting up 16 points while also grabbing 4 rebounds and 1 assist.

UCLA will play Arizona in the Championship game on Saturday; the only other time these two teams met in the Championship game, Arizona went on to win 94-78.

UCLA junior guard Norman Powell (10.9ppg) posted a season high 22 points in this semifinal game, while also picking up 2 rebounds and 2 assists. This is Powell’s second 20 point game of the season.

With this win, UCLA takes the season series with Stanford (2-1). However, UCLA leads the all-time series 140-92

This is the first time these two teams have played in the Conference Tournament since 2008, in which UCLA beat Stanford (67-64) in the Final Game of the Tournament to take home the title of Pac-12 Tournament Champion.

UCLA shot well in the first half, shooting 62% on 18-of-29 from the field with two players in double-digits in the first half: Anderson (11 pts) and T. Wear (12 pts).
