Five Pac-12 softball teams earn top-12 seeds in WCWS bracket

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - All five Pac-12 softball teams that received a berth in the 2014 NCAA Women’s College World Series were seeded in the top 12, with the OREGON Ducks earning the No. 1 overall seed in the tournament, as announced by the NCAA today. 

The field also features No. 3 UCLA, No. 9 ARIZONA STATE, No. 11 ARIZONA and No. 12 WASHINGTON. The five teams will play host to opening regional rounds May 16-18 with the exception of Washington, which will host the regional round May 15-17. 

The Ducks finished the regular season with a 49-7-1 record to earn the Pac-12 title and the automatic bid for the Conference champion, its second-straight Conference championship and second ever in program history. UCLA’s third-place seed comes on a 48-6 overall record, while Arizona State picked up the No. 9 seed after finishing the season 44-10-1. Arizona is seeded 11th after finishing the regular season 41-13, while Washington is seeded 12th with an overall record of 33-13. 

The championship will be three weekends of competition. Four teams will participate at 16 different campus sites in a double-elimination tournament. The 64-team field was selected from 293 NCAA Division I institutions sponsoring softball, with 32 receiving an automatic qualification and the other 32 earning at-large bids.
