Hendrix Named Pac-12 Player Of The Week
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. – Oregon State sophomore Jeff Hendrix has been named the Pac-12 Conference’s Player of the Week on Monday, commissioner Larry Scott announced.
Hendrix was dynamic in the Beavers’ 4-0 week, going 8-for-18 (.444) with six runs scored, five runs driven in, a home run, two doubles and two stolen bases. The home run, his second of the season, served as the game-tying shot against UCLA Sunday as the Beavers scored 11 unanswered runs.
The Corvallis native finished with two or more hits in three of the four games. His sacrifice fly Tuesday against Oregon served as the game-winner in the 12th inning.
Hendrix is batting .387 on the year and has seven doubles to go along with three triples, two home runs and 26 RBI. The Beavers are 21-1 this season when he starts in the leadoff spot.
It’s his first career honor and the second Player of the Week award for the Beavers after Michael Conforto was recognized after the opening week of the season. Overall, OSU has five weekly honors as Jace Fry has been named the Pac-12’s top pitcher three times.
The Player of the Week honor is the 65th all-time for Oregon State, and 22nd since the then-Pac-10 unified prior to the 1999 season.
The Beavers meet Portland at 5:35 p.m. Tuesday at Volcanoes Stadium in Keizer. They have defeated the Pilots twice this year and 20 consecutive times overall.
