Standout Guard Stephen Domingo Joins Golden Bears

BERKELEY, Calif. – California head men’s basketball coach Cuonzo Martin announced the signing of standout guard Stephen Domingo. The San Francisco native, who played his first two collegiate seasons at Georgetown University, has two years of collegiate eligibility remaining.

“We’re very excited to have Stephen come home and join our basketball family,” Martin said. “Stephen has the skill and length to be a good all-around player at both ends of the floor.”  

In his two seasons at Georgetown, Domingo played in 39 games, including 20 contests this past season. In his two years in Washington, D.C., the Hoyas won 45 games and reached the postseason each year. Domingo, 6-7, 206 pounds, played alongside consensus first team All-American and current Washington Wizards guard Otto Porter Jr. as a freshman during the 2012-13 season where the Hoyas posted a 25-7 record and reached the NCAA Tournament.     

One of the nation’s top scholastic prospects of the 2013 class, Domingo graduated in just three years at St. Ignatius College Prep in San Francisco and enrolled at Georgetown a year early in the summer of 2012. A team captain during his third and final season at St. Ignatius, he averaged 13.3 points for the Wildcats and earned Cal-HI Sports All-State Division II accolades. Domingo was a two-time All-Metro selection by the San Francisco Chronicle and a two-year All-City pick by SanFranPreps.com. The guard also earned All-West Catholic League laurels as a sophomore in 2011 and junior in 2012. He averaged 15.4 points, 10.1 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 2.3 blocks per game as sophomore at St. Ignatius.         

Domingo helped lead the United States U-17 World Championship Team to a Gold Medal in the 2012 FIBA U17 World Championship in Kaunas, Lithuania. Domingo averaged 7.8 ppg. and shot .359 from three-point range as a regular starter for USA during its title run. In the opening game of the FIBA World Championships, he led the United States to the win over Australia with 17 points on 5-of-8 shooting from three-point range.

He played on the AAU circuit with Dream Vision, guiding the team to the AAU14U national title.

Domingo joins Westwind Prep center Kingsley Okoroh, who signed with Cal earlier this month, in the Golden Bears’ 2014 recruiting class.
