Manthou Named ITA Northwest Region Most Improved Senior of the Year

May 13, 2014

SEATTLE --  University of Washington senior Max Manthou has been named the Northwest Region Most Improved Senior of the Year, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced today. It is the first time a Husky has won the regional honor given out by the ITA.

“This is a great award for Max,” said head coach Matt Anger. “He has worked so hard over his four years and consistently improved many parts of his game to work his way up to the top of the singles and doubles lineup for us. His development as a player and a person has been fun to watch and I’m very happy to see him recognized as the most improved senior of our very talented region.”

Manthou, this year’s team captain, posted a 12-9 overall record this season playing at the number one and two spots for UW. His 12 singles victories were the most by a Dawg this season. Manthou also picked up a 7-12 record in doubles play alongside Viktor Farkas at both number one and two doubles.  He was a singles semifinalist at the ITA Regional Championships this year and a doubles semifinalist in 2013.

This season marked his first playing at the number one and two spots after only seeing action in six singles matches as a freshman all at six singles and continued to move up the lineup playing three, four, five and six singles as sophomore and junior.

The Tacoma, Wash., native is also a two time ITA Academic All-American and Pac-12 All-Academic First Team selection. He currently holds a 3.75 GPA in history and has been a member of UW’s Dean’s List.
