May 13, 2014

Women's water polo goalkeeper Sami Hill was named the UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week for May 5-11, and softball player Ally Carda's game-tying home run with two outs in the seventh inning against ASU earned Play of the Week honors.

Hill totaled 30 saves over three games as the Bruins advanced to the National Championship game. She recorded 10 saves in the quarterfinal opener against UC San Diego, allowing four goals in just under three and a half periods in the 12-8 win. In the semifinals against host USC, Hill allowed just three goals and made eight saves in the cage. She made 12 saves, including one on a penalty shot, in the championship game.

Carda's heroics in UCLA softball's comeback win over Arizona State May 9 earned Play of the Week status. With UCLA down to its two last strikes, Carda hit the game-tying home run in the seventh inning. She then hit the go-ahead, two-run home run in the ninth as the Bruins rallied to a 9-5 victory over the Sun Devils. Carda also pitched seven innings in relief, striking out eight and allowing three runs and five hits.
