Men's Swimming Hosts All-Comers Cal Invitational

Jan 12, 2015

BERKELEY, CALIF. - The University of California men's swimming program will be hosting its annual Cal Invitational this weekend, Jan. 17-18 at Spieker Aquatics Complex on the Cal campus. The all-comers meet, which will not feature any Cal swimmers competing in the invitational finals, gives local male and female athletes an opportunity to compete at the home pool of the Golden Bears' swimming and diving teams. The event is opened to the public.

The Golden Bears (3-0), led by coach David Durden, has won NCAA team titles in three of the last four years and will next visit the Arizona schools to open Pac-12 dual meet competition. Cal travels to Tempe on Friday, Jan. 23 (time TBA) to face Arizona State and then takes on Arizona in Tucson on Saturday, Jan. 24 at 11 a.m. in a dual meet shown on the Pac-12 Networks.

"The Cal Invitational is a great opportunity for local club swimmers to interact and race with our athletes," said Durden. "It gives our guys a chance to race in a low pressure situation, and it is our outreach to the area club teams. Our guys help run the meet."
