UCLA’s Keck Named Player of the Week

Washington’s Bremer Selected Pitcher of the Week

SAN FRANCISCO - UCLA infielder Chris Keck has been named Pac-12 Player of the Week and Washington right-handed pitcher Noah Bremer has been tabbed Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week, the Conference office announced Monday.

Keck, a senior from Pleasanton, Calif., helped lead the Bruins to a perfect 4-0 record last week, making two starts at third base and two starts at first base. In total, Keck went 5-for-10 with nine RBIs, three runs, two doubles, a triple and a home run. In addition, Keck earned three walks and drove in two batters via sacrifice fly. For the week, his on base percentage was .533 and he slugged 1.200. Also performing well in the field, Keck made 14 put outs and had three assists while making zero errors. So far this season, Keck leads the Bruins in home runs (4), RBIs (19), slugging percentage (.833), walks (10) and sacrifice flies (2).

Bremer, a freshman from Berkeley, Calif., pitched the first four innings of a 6-0 combined shutout of Portland on Wednesday and flirted with a perfect game in Washington’s 4-1 win over North Dakota on Sunday. Bremer, in just the fourth appearance (third start) of his college career, retired the first 19 batters he faced before allowing a one-out single in the seventh inning Sunday. He earned his first college win after throwing 76 pitches (51 strikes) over seven innings. He allowed no runs, the one hit and a later walk, while striking out six. Against Portland, Bremer gave up just one hit and struck out one, but did not figure in the decision when exited after four innings with a 4-0 lead. For the week, Bremer was 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA over 11 innings in two starts. He gave up just two hits, struck out seven and walked one batter while holding opponents to a .059 average. He allowed only one batter of the 37 he faced to reach third base.

UCLA plays again tomorrow, March 3, against CSU Northridge at 6 p.m. PT, while the Huskies play Friday, when they host Pepperdine in a game that starts at 5 p.m. PT
