Washington student hits half-court shot to win free burgers for a year and his dorm

Mar 7, 2015

Nigel Williams-Goss might have scored 28 points for the Washington men's basketball team in Saturday's 77-68 upset of No. 13 Utah in Seattle. But the real MVP was standing in the student section for most of the game.

Washington fan Ben Wherett made a lot of college kids happy at halftime, when he drilled a halfcourt shot to win a year's supply of free burgers from a local establishment. Better yet: He won a free burger for every person his entire dorm. What a legend.

It was quite the exclamation point to an entertaining afternoon at Alaska Airlines Arena. The Huskies had lost 10 of 11 entering Saturday's contest, struggling without dismissed center Robert Upshaw and injured forward Shawn Kemp. Not to mention Utah has one of the Pac-12's best big men in Jacob Poeltl.

But the Huskies pulled it off and what better way to celebrate a Dawgs victory than with a free meal?
