Buffs Head Into Final Week of Spring Competition

Apr 15, 2015

BOULDER - The University of Colorado volleyball team has a very busy week on deck with its final two spring competitions and a kids clinic on the schedule.

The Buffs will host Northern Colorado on Thursday, April 16, at 6 p.m. for a scrimmage in the upper gym of the practice facility. Prior to the contest, CU will host its second kids clinic of the spring from 4-6 p.m. The clinic is open to kids in eighth grade and under. Parking after 5 p.m. is free in lot 436/RG; prior to 5 p.m. parking will be available in paid meter parking lot 440 right outside of the CEC. This scrimmage is open to the public and admission is free.

The final spring competition date is on Saturday, April 18. CU will travel to Colby Community College in Colby, Kan. for scrimmages and a variety of drills against Wichita State.

The Buffs have also joined in one-year-old Riva Bir's fight against Stage 4 neuroblastoma as sponsors through the Friends of Jaclyn Foundation. Friends of Jaclyn is a nonprofit organization that works to improve the quality of life for children with pediatric brain tumors and their families by pairing them with college and high school athletic teams.

Due to Riva's young age and delicate health, the Colorado volleyball program is unable to officially adopt her as an honorary team member. This has not stopped Kritza or her players in their mission to support and raise funds for the Bir family and their fight. The team sends Riva messages to keep her smiling, and will begin a fundraising campaign for her this week. Anyone who wants to donate to help offset the family's growing financial costs due to the medical treatments can do so at www.gofundme.com/rivabir.
