Six teams begin quest for Omaha

REGIONAL PLAY: The Pac-12 Conference features six teams in the upcoming NCAA Baseball regional, led by top-8 national No. 1 seed, UCLA.  USC, Oregon State, and Arizona State are regional-second seeds and California and Oregon are regional-three seeds. The Pac-12 has featured five teams in the national top-25 since mid-March and has won 28 College World Series all-time.

COACHING CHANGES: Arizona Coach Andy Lopez, after 33 years, announced his retirement on Memorial Day. He led the Wildcats for the past 14 years, including two CWS appearances and the 2012 national title.  A three-time National Coach of the Year, Lopez also led Pepperdine to the 1992 title. He finished with a career record of 1177-742-7 (.613). The Wildcats were 31-24 this year. WSU Donnie Marbut was not retained after 11 years and a 314-304 record.

RANKINGS: The Pac-12 continues to have five teams ranked in the top-25, led by No. 2 UCLA in both Baseball America and Collegiate Baseball. Oregon State is No. 12 in Collegiate Baseball and No. 17 in Baseball America, while Arizona State (No. 19/No. 18) and USC (No. 15/No. 17) are both inside the top-20 in both polls. Cal is No. 16 in Collegiate Baseball and No. 25 in Baseball America.

OVERALL: Arizona State (65-40 overall post-season record) is making its 38th appearance,USC (97-42) is in its 37th post-season, UCLA (51-30) is in its 20th NCAA Regional, Oregon State (35-23) is in its 16th Regional, California (28-16) is appearing for the 13th time, and Oregon (14-10) is making its seventh appearance.

CHAMPIONS: The Pac-12 has won 28 College World Series and been an NCAA runner-up another 15 times. Ninety-five current Pac-12 teams have appeared in Omaha.

SINCE 1999: Since 1999, and the Regional field was expanded, the Pac-12 has appeared in eight CWS Championship Series, winning four times. UCLA (2013) and Arizona (2012) are the most recent champions. Since 1999, the Pac-12 has had 20 national-8 seeds, including UCLA this season. The Pac-12 has played in 37 Super Regionals since 1999, reaching the CWS 21 times.
