Tucson, Ariz. - Ninth-ranked Arizona sand volleyball swept LMU, 5-0, as they closed out the Arizona Invitational earlier today. UA goes undefeated this weekend with victories over TCU, Cal and LMU. The sand cats improved to 4-0 to open their season.
"It was a good opening weekend," said head coach Steve Walker. "It was nice to come out and play well in front of a good turnout because we always want to do well for the home crowd. I think this was a really good measuring stick of where we are and what we need to improve upon moving forward. We had some good competition, but it's always going to get harder as you move down the schedule."
Arizona's No. 1 tandem of Madison and Mckenna Witt got a well-earned win against LMU's No. 1 team of Avery Brown and Sascha Dominique (21-9, 21-15).
Meanwhile on court two, Wildcats' No.2 team of Jianna Bonomi and Katarina Schulz defeated Veronica Nederend and Lindsay Carr after a close second set, (21-14, 22-20).
The Sand Cat's No. 3 duo of Olivia Macdonald and Samantha Manley beat the Lions in straight sets against Jamie Leu and Erin Williams (21-9, 21-13).
No. 4 team of Mia Mason and Sara Pantovic fought hard and earned a victory against LMU team of Nicky Kevorken and Kristen Castellanos (21-14, 21-18).
