Roundup: Wildcats fall short in College World Series finals

Arizona

Arizona baseball lost to Coastal Carolina 4-3 in Game 3 of the College World Series finals, giving the Chanticleers their first national championship. The Wildcats surrendered four unearned runs in the top of the sixth.

USC

David Lombardi reminds us that the Pat Haden era is officially over at USC, as the school announced in February that he would leave his position as AD on June 30. Lynn Swann now takes over.

Oregon

Great news for the Ducks – Dylan Ennis has received an extra year of eligibility from the NCAA and will return to Oregon men’s basketball, Tyson Alger informs. Ennis transferred to Oregon from Villanova, but foot injuries allowed him to play only 21 minutes last season.

California

Josh Prenot, Anthony Ervin and Nathan Adrian all qualified for the Rio Olympics this week at the U.S. Olympic Trials in Omaha. Adrian and Ervin are Cal alums, while Prenot just wrapped up his senior season this spring.

Arizona State

Jeff Metcalfe lets us know that Arizona State hired Matt Hill as its men’s tennis coach, the second coach it has had to hire in a month after Adam Steinberg decided to return to Michigan last week. The Sun Devils will begin play in 2017-18 after being dropped for budgetary reasons in 2008.

Utah

Utah gymnastics added Maryland transfer Macey Roberts to the roster. Roberts scored a 9.9 on the floor this past season with the Terps in her best individual performance.

Stanford

Former Stanford women’s basketball star Nneka Ogwumike scored a career-high 38 points to lead the Los Angeles Sparks to an 84-75 win over the Atlanta Dream on Thursday. Ogwumike went 13 of 14 from the field as the Sparks improved to a whopping 15-1.

UCLA

Colorado

Pat Rooney catches up with Colorado basketball great Richard Roby, who is the Buffs’ co-all-time leading scorer. This dude was a beast back in the day and has had himself a nice overseas career. Oregon State

Former Oregon State wrestler Taylor Meeks has returned to the program as an assistant coach, while assistant Kevin Roberts was promoted to associate head coach, head coach Jim Zalesky announced Thursday.
