The Pac-12 announced today that the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) has appointed Pac-12 Commissioner Larry Scott to its newly formed board of directors.  With the news, Commissioner Scott will further support the efforts of the ADL and its work as the nation’s premier civil rights organization.

Today’s announcement continues a strong partnership for Commissioner Scott and the ADL.  Commissioner Scott’s personal commitment to the mission of the ADL extends back to his time with the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) where as chairman and CEO he worked with ADL to resolve several issues, including related to his work with Billie Jean King and others to achieve a long-sought goal of equal prize money for women in tennis’ grand slam events, and work to ensure Shahar Pe'er and other Israeli athletes be allowed to participate in a Dubai tennis tournament.

The Pac-12 Commissioner was later honored in 2013 with the ADL’s Americanism Award for his lifetime commitment to promoting fair play in sports and in 2017 was named chair of the organization’s “Sports Leadership Council.” The ADL Sports Council is made of former professional athletes and legends such as Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Billie Jean King and Ronnie Lott, as well as commissioners of the NFL, NBA, MLB, MLS and team owners and executives, and is working to increase the sports community’s efforts to build bridges of understanding, unity and respect.

Recently, the Pac-12 Conference and Pac-12 Networks were founding partners of the ADL’s “Oneday Against Hate” campaign on Oct. 1, 2018.  As part of this nationwide initiative, the Pac-12 worked with the ADL to hold conversations of understanding, including with its own staff, and promoted the national day of action across all its media platforms.
