Four ranked Pac-12 gymnastics match-ups this week

SAN FRANCISCO - Pac-12 Gymnastics has all eight of its teams ranked in the WCGA Top 25 for the second consecutive week.

  • Unbeaten #3 UCLA and #4 UTAH surpass school records and both look to post their fifth consecutive 197+ team score.
  • #19 ARIZONA STATE and #24 STANFORD perform in front of  near-capacity, record-breaking crowds.
  • #20 OREGON STATE and #23 ARIZONA will face top 10 opponents #3 UCLA and #4 UTAH after the Beavers’ upset of #12 WASHINGTON and the Wildcats’ upset over #18 CALIFORNIA.
  • Pac-12 Gymnastics will face non-conference competition this week as #18 CALIFORNIA and #19 ARIZONA STATE meet the #14 BYU Cougars in Haas Pavilion.
  • Stanford’s Kyla Bryant will look for her fifth-straight all-around title this Friday.
  • Senior Katelyn Ohashi is ranked #1 in the nation on both the beam and the floor.

PAC-12 TEAM NOTES

ARIZONA - No. 23 Arizona upset the No. 12 California Golden Bears last Saturday with a final score of 195.975 to 194.450 ... Several GymCats scored season highs including Adra Parks earning a 9.775 on the vault, Heather Swanson (9.775)  and Danielle Spencer (9.900) on the uneven bars, Kennedi Davis (9.775) on the balance beam, and Haylie Hendrickson (9.775), Heather Swanson (9.850), Sydney Freidin (9.850), and Christina Berg (9.900) on the floor ... The GymCats will take on No. 4 Utah next at the Huntsman Center.

ARIZONA STATE - The No. 19 Arizona State gymnastics team posted several high scores in front of the biggest home crowd attendance since 2016 with over 4,000 fans, but ultimately fell to No. 4 Utah 19.375-195.825 in Saturday’s dual meet at Wells Fargo Arena ... Cairo Leonard-Baker had a 39.450 in the all-around, finishing third in the meet behind Utah’s MyKayla Skinner (39.600) and MaKenna Merrell-Giles (39.575).  Leonard-Baker’s 9.950 score on the floor routine won the individual title in that event and tied her career high ... The Sun Devils will head to Berkeley for a tri-meet with No. 18 Cal and No. 14 BYU on Saturday.

CALIFORNIA - The Golden Bears displayed grit to finish strong in their loss to Arizona. No. 18 California fell to No. 23 Arizona, 195.975-194.450, but set a season-high 49.300 vault total and picked up three event titles ... Freshman Milan Clausi continued a standout week by sharing the vault title with teammate Kyana George using a career-high 9.90 ... Cassidy Keelen built on her performance against Stanford on Monday with a career-best 9.90 on beam to win the event.

OREGON STATE - No. 20 Oregon State registered its highest score of the season for the third straight week (196.100) to upset No. 12 Washington ... Sophomore Kaitlyn Yanish led the Beavers scoring 39.250 in the all-around to set a personal best ... The Beavers reached the 49 point mark for the first time in 2019 by scoring a 49.275 on the beam ... Oregon State will return to Gill Coliseum next week to host  No. 3 UCLA.

STANFORD - Sophomore Kyla Bryant looks for her fifth consecutive all-around title this week ... Bryant captured her fourth consecutive all-around title (39.325) performing in front of a sellout crowd of 6,000 fans in Maples Pavilion, the largest to attend a Stanford women’s gymnastics meet in history ... The Cardinal will compete at home once again on Friday when they host the No. 12 Washington Huskies.

UCLA - In front of a sold-out Stanford record crowd of 6,000, No. 3 UCLA defeated No. 24 Stanford, 197.225-195.125. The Bruins have now scored 197 or higher in a school-record four-straight meets to start the season ... Freshman Sekai Wright’s meet-winning score of 9.875 led UCLA to a 49.100 score on vault. Also scoring above 9.8 on the vault were Nia Dennis (9.800) and Felicia Hano (9.825) ... The Bruins will compete next at No. 20 Oregon State on Saturday.

UTAH - The No. 4 Utes scored 197.375 to beat No. 18 ASU on Friday marking Utah’s fourth consecutive score over 197.000 this season ...  MyKayla Skinner won the all-around title (39.600) and beam (9.925) and tied for first on bars with Missy ReinstadtlerMaKenna Merrell-Giles was right behind her teammate, placing second in the all-around with a 39.575 and winning the vault with a 9.90 ... After three weeks on the road, Utah will return to the Huntsman Center on Friday to host No. 23 Arizona.

WASHINGTON - An impressive performance from Evanni Roberson helped the  #11 Washington Huskies put up a 195.900 in their first home meet of the season, narrowly missing a dual meet win over No. 20 Oregon State. Roberson came away with three event titles, including her first career all-around title thanks to a career-best score of 39.475 ... Washington will look to take home three or more titles for the fourth consecutive time as they face the No. 24 Stanford Cardinal on Friday.
