Schultz Crowned Greco-Roman 130 kg Champion for Second Year in a Row

Oct 9, 2020

CORALVILLE, Iowa – Arizona State redshirt freshman Cohlton Schultz (130 kg) finished his run at Senior Nationals as the Greco-Roman 130 kg champion Friday, while his teammate Chad Porter (97 kg) went 3-0 to earn a spot in the 97 kg final, but finished in second.

This is the second time that Schultz, the top-seeded wrestler at 130 kg, has won the Greco-Roman championship. He was the first Sun Devil freshman to be crowned champion.

Schultz came out and dominated his opponents from the start of the day as he earned three wins, one by superiority. In the championship, Schultz trailed his opponent, West Cathcart, before he would go on to win, 4-2, to be crowned Senior Nationals champion.

Three other Sun Devils made their appearances in the Greco-Roman weight classes on Friday. In the round of 16 redshirt freshman Nicholas Raimo (60 kg) lost by superiority and redshirt senior Cade Belshay (87 kg) fell short by a technical fall with the opponent scoring. Redshirt freshman Trey Munoz (87 kg) defeated the fifth seed on his way to the semifinals.

The men's freestyle division will kick off its competition schedule Saturday, as three current Sun Devils placed themselves in position to claim a top-five placement.

The men's freestyle division will kick off its competition schedule Saturday with Sun Devils Anthony Valencia (74 kg), Brandon Courtney (57 kg), Austin Clayton (86 kg), Alex Torres (74 kg) and Sun Devil alumni Tanner Hall in heavyweight.

Porter earned a pair of wins in the round of 16 and quarterfinal, with both opponents going scoreless. A meeting with senior Jeremiah Imonode of Army West Point stood in the way of reaching the final Friday night. The semifinal match was tight, but Porter would ultimately take the victory, 2-1.

Fans will have the opportunity to watch Saturday's action via Flowrestling.org, with live results on FloArena. Coverage gets underway at 8 a.m. MST for the men's and women's freestyle.
