Bears Sign State Champion

Nov 19, 2020

Former Florida prep state champion Jieming "Cissy" Yang has signed a National Letter of Intent to join Cal's women's golf program, head coach Nancy McDaniel announced Thursday.

Yang had an accomplished career at The First Academy in Orlando, Fla. In addition to winning the 2019 FHSAA state tournament individual title, she also captured the 2020 Class 1A Region 2 individual championship to help lead the Royals to the team title.

"We are excited to welcome Cissy to our Cal Family," Cal head coach Nancy McDaniel said. "Cissy's hard work and dedication both in the classroom and on the course will fit right in with what this team is all about. She has a real respect for what it takes to combine her academics while pursuing her dream of being a Cal student-athlete, and is fully up to the challenge."

In addition to her success on the high school level, Yang also has excelled in amateur play. She won the 2019 Kyle Stanley Championship in Gig Harbor, Wash., and finished fourth at the 2019 Dixie Amateur in Tamarac, Fla.

Yang, who lives in Orlando but is originally from the Shangdong Province in China, placed second at the 2019 China Amateur.

Yang will enroll at Cal next fall and be ready to compete for the Golden Bears in the 2021-22 season.
