Maridoe Amateur Championship Update: Signee Preston Summerhays in Semifinals
Sun Devil men's golf 2020 fall signee Preston Summerhays -- ranked fifth in the Golfweek Boys computer rankings -- is in the semifinals of the Maridoe Amateur Championship being held at Carrollton, Texas.
Summerhays, the 2019 U.S. Junior Amateur champion and the youngest winner of the Sunnehanna Amateur when he took home the title in 2019, grabbed the No. 8 seed and topped USC freshman Shane Ffrench in the first round 4-and-3. He then took out Oklahoma's Patrick Welch 1-up and beat SMU's Mcclure Meissner 4-and-3. Meissner won the Southern Amateur at Maridoe over the summer.
Next up is a match with No. 1 Will Holcomb. Summerhays tied for seventh in stroke play with an 8-over 224 (71-80-73).
Got some dudes -- including one local -- that make us better. @GrayhawkGolf get ready. They see alums like @JonRahmpga @Paul_Casey @PhilMickelson and Chez Reavie teeing it at Masters and want to be next. We welcome Preston, Kiko and Josele! https://t.co/zLXqpkR7Wn pic.twitter.com/IcurukzVEu
