Utah Women's Tennis Wraps Up Big 12/Pac-12 Dual

Jan 13, 2021

ARLINGTON, Texas – The Utah women's tennis team got its first taste of competition in over 310 days this week, competing at the Big 12/Pac-12 Mock Dual tournament in Arlington, Texas. Utah played singles and doubles matches against Kansas, Kansas State and Texas Tech over the three-day neutral site event.

Getting valuable reps before the dual meet season begins, the Utes competed against the trio of Big 12 schools in a mock style tournament, playing doubles against one school and singles versus another, rotating opponents each day.

On the first day of action, newcomer Anastasia Goncharova suited up as a Ute for the first time and teamed up with Anya Lamoreaux in doubles play against Kansas State. Goncharova and Lamoreaux downed Kansas State's duo of Anna Turco/Lilla Barzo 6-3 on court two for the first Ute win in Arlington.

Madeline Lamoreaux got things rolling in her singles match on Tuesday when Utah was matched up against Texas Tech for singles play. Lamoreaux skated by the Red Raiders' Bojana Marinkov in straight sets at the No. 4 spot with a score of 6-1, 6-1.

To close out the three-day trip, juniors Lindsay Hung and Emily Dush both pulled in singles wins on Wednesday after battling through three-set matches. Hung came out on top despite dropping the first set to Kansas State's Ioana Gheorghita 3-6. Hung turned around and fought for 6-3, 6-3 wins to claim the singles match on court three. Meanwhile, Dush found herself ahead in the match after pulling out a 7-5 victory in the first set. She then dropped a narrow tiebreaker in the second 6-7 (5) to Kansas State's Margot Decker on court four. Dush jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the third before Decker retired from the match, leaving Dush with the singles victory to close out the week of play.

Utah will begin its dual match slate on Saturday, Jan. 30 when the Utes host the Idaho State Bengals at the George S. Eccles Tennis Center in Salt Lake City. The first dual match of the 2021 season will begin at 1 p.m. MT. Follow @UteWomensTennis on Twitter and @utahwomenstennis on Instagram to stay up-to-date with this year's team.
