Hafferty Selected in Second Round of MLS Draft by Inter Miami

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Oregon State's Joe Hafferty has been selected in the second round of 2021 MLS SuperDraft, which was held Thursday.
 
Hafferty was taken by Inter Miami with the 37th overall pick. He joins, Hassani Dotson (Minnesota United – 31st overall – 2019), Don Tchilao (LA Galaxy – 36th – 2019), Jordan Jones (LAFC – 47th overall – 2018), Timmy Mueller (Portland Timbers – 63rd – 2018), Khiry Shelton (NYCFC – 2nd overall – 2015), Will Seymore (FC Dallas – 56th overall – 2015), Emery Welshman (Toronto FC – 16th overall – 2013), Danny Mwanga (Philadelphia Union – 1st overall – 2010), Robbie Findley (LA Galaxy – 16th overall – 2007), Ryan Johnson (Real Salt Lake – 26th overall – 2006) and Alan Gordon (LA Galaxy – 53rd overall – 2004) as Beavers selected in the draft.
 
Hafferty was an All-Pac-12 First Team honoree last season. The senior was a stalwart for the Beavers in 2019, seeing time both on the back line and in the midfield. The Renton, Wash. native was an All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention as a sophomore.
 
In his three seasons with Oregon State Hafferty has appeared in 53 matches, making 50 starts. He has amassed a total of nine points on two goals and three assists.
 
Oregon State finished the 2019 season with a record of 8-6-2, marking the first time the program has recorded back-to-back winning seasons since 2002-03. The Beavers will return to action next month, as the Pac-12 has delayed its men's soccer season to start in February.
