Champlin Named MPSF/Molten MVB Player of the Week

UCLA freshman outside hitter Ethan Champlin was named the MPSF/Molten Defensive Player of the Week by the Mountain Sports Federation on Monday. Champlin helped the Bruins earn a split in a pair of matches played this past week at top-ranked BYU, posting UCLA's first win over the Cougars in Provo since the 2009 season.

Champlin paced UCLA with nine and six digs in the contests at BYU last week. He also handled 40 of 41 serve receptions without an error. In the win over the Cougars, Champlin added a team-best 11 kills and five blocks, including his first career block solo. He recorded one service ace in each match.

The Bruin men's volleyball team (2-1) moved up to sixth in the weekly American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) poll which was released on Monday. UCLA will host USC (0-0) on Saturday at 5 p.m. in Pauley Pavilion presented by Wescom in its next match.
