Huskies Post Second 7-0 Win Over Seattle

SEATTLE – The Huskies wound round two of three scheduled meetings this season with Seattle U. today at the Nordstrom Tennis Center. Washington improved to 4-0 with its fourth sweep thus far.
 
Head Coach Robin Stephenson mixed up the doubles lineup today for the first time, and the three new combos lost just one game between them. Vanessa Wong and Sarah-Maude Fortin were 6-0 winners at No. 1, then Sedona Gallagher and Yolanda Lin took the No. 2 match, 6-1. Zoey Weil and Tara Chilton completed the doubles point with a 6-0 win at No. 3.
 
In singles, 74th-ranked Wong quickly won at the top spot, 6-1, 6-0, over Peggy Rooke. Moments later it was 3-0 Huskies as Fortin finished a 6-0, 6-0 win over Jillian Rasmussen.
 
The clinching point came from Sedona Gallagher who won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 over Hannah Gianan. Ashley Chang got her first singles start of the year at No. 6 and she was a 6-3, 6-0 winner over Martin Asciuto for 5-0.
 
Chilton improved to 4-0 as she won at No. 5 singles today, 6-3, 6-2. Yolanda Lin finished it off, as she won her first set, 6-0, lost the second set in a tiebreak, but quickly bounced back to win the super-tiebreak, 10-4.
 
Chilton, one of three freshmen starters along with Fortin and Lin, said "I'm pretty happy with my execution of things. I was happy I was able to stay focused in the pressure point moments, because we had a lot of deuces and you never know how those can go, so I'm just happy I was able to stay loose, stay focused, and swing through everything."
 
During these first three weeks of the season, Chilton says the coaches have emphasized a few key things. "Applying constant pressure, and moving your opponent," said Chilton. "Hitting deep and making them work and not rushing. Playing how we do in practice and controlling the points."
 
The Huskies will be back in action on Friday at 11 a.m. looking to reach 5-0 when they take on Eastern Washington.
