Bruins Open 2021 Season at The Prestige

LA QUINTA, Calif. - The Bruins begin their 2021 campaign this week at The Prestige. The three-day, 54-hole tournament, which runs from Monday through Wednesday, will be played at the Greg Norman Course at PGA WEST's par-71, 7,100-yard layout.

The Bruins' fivesome consists of senior Devon Bling, juniors Ahmed Ali and Bryan Wiyang Teoh, sophomore Mason Greene and freshman Ty Griggs. UCLA tees off in the morning wave on Monday at 6:45 a.m. off the 10th tee in the order of Greene, Griggs, Teoh, Ali and Bling. The Bruins are in the afternoon wave on Tuesday starting at 11 a.m. off the first tee in that same order. Wednesday's tee times will be based on the standings after 36 holes of play. Joining the Bruins in the 24-team field are Arizona, Arizona State, California, Cal Poly, Colorado, Denver, Iowa State, Long Beach State, Marquette, Nevada, North Carolina, Northwestern, Oregon, Oregon State, Pepperdine, San Diego State, SMU, Stanford, TCU, Texas Tech, UC Davis, USC and Wyoming.

In last season's COVID-19 shortened campaign, the Bruins had a pair of third-place finishes at the Marquette Intercollegiate and the Ka'anapali Classic Collegiate Invitational. UCLA finished under par as a team three times in seven tournaments.

Bling won his final event of his junior season at the Bandon Dunes Championship. He shot a 5-under 208 to claim a one-shot victory, the second of his career. Bling was named a GCAA/PING Third Team All-American and a Golfweek Honorable Mention All-American in 2019-2020, also earning GCAA/PING All-West Region accolades. He led the Bruins with a 71.0 scoring average and was a combined 12-under for the season, posting a pair of Top 10s, five Top 20s, nine under-par rounds and five rounds in the 60s. After also finishing third at the Southern Highlands Collegiate earlier last March, Bling was named Pac-12 Conference Golfer of the Month.

Teoh played in seven tournaments last year, recording a 71.8 scoring average, which was second on the team. He had three Top 20s, and six of his eight under-par rounds were in the 60s. Teoh's season-best showing was a T-6 at the Ka'anapali Classic Collegiate Invitational, where he was under par in all three rounds, finishing at 11-under 202. He also tied for 12th at the Marquette Intercollegiate and tied for 19th at the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate Invitational.

Ali appeared in four events as a sophomore, finishing second at the Providence Seabeggar Invitational (+8, 224). He shot an 8-under 64 in the final round of the tournament. Ali also tied for 21st at The Joust.

Greene played in six tournaments as a freshman, recording a 74.2 scoring average, a pair of Top 10s and four under-par rounds. He was sixth at the Providence Seabeggar Invitational and tied for sixth at The Joust.

Griggs prepped at East Union High School in Manteca, Calif. The three-time Valley Oak League Player of the Year (2017-2019) was also named the Sacramento Bee Prep Golfer of the Year and Stockton Record Prep Athlete of the Year in 2019. During his senior year, he was ranked first in California and 12th in the country according to Junior Golf Scoreboard.

This will be the second of two consecutive tournaments for the Bruins in the Palm Springs area, as they'll take part in the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate (Feb. 19-21) at the Classic Club in Palm Desert.
