Feb 14, 2021

EUGENE, Ore. -- For the second straight match, Arizona fell in three sets to Oregon in Eugene, falling 25-23, 25-13, 25-15.

Arizona dropped to 2-6 (2-6 Pac-12) this season, while Oregon improved to 6-2 (6-2 Pac-12).

Arizona's offense came out of the gates firing on all cylinders, recording 17 kills on .325 hitting, but the Cats were let down by four service errors as the Ducks defeated the Cats, 25-23 in the opening set. The Ducks carried that momentum into the second and third sets, winning both comfortably.

The Wildcats were without senior outside hitter Paige Whipple. A pair of freshmen stepped up in her absence, with Jaelyn Hodge recording nine kills on .350 hitting and Sofia Maldonado Diaz leading the team with 11 kills. Maldonado Diaz also led the team in aces (2) and blocks (2).

Emery Herman came two digs shy of double-double, finishing with 25 assists and eight digs. Kamaile Hiapo led the Wildcats with 10 digs.

The Cats are back in action on Friday, when they welcome Oregon State to Tucson for a pair of matches. The Wildcats and Beavers meet Friday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m. in a pair of matches televised by the Pac-12 Networks.
