LAS VEGAS – The #2 Washington Huskies finished their opening weekend with a 7-0 victory over the Dixie State Trailblazers. The Huskies took the lead on the second pitch of the game, via a Baylee Klingler home run, and never looked back from there.

Sami Reynolds drove in four runs, hitting her third homer of the young season. The four RBI were one off her career-best mark, set last year against Santa Clara. She had two of Washington's four extra-base hits in the game, with Klingler hitting a homer and Morganne Flores added a double.

Kelley Lynch and Gabbie Plain combined to shutout Dixie State. Lynch struck out four in two innings of work, allowing just one hit. Plain would pitch the final four innings without allowing a run.

Jenn Cummings made her Husky debut, the third freshman to appear for the Dawgs this season. She would single in the fifth inning.

SCORING
  • First Inning: Just two pitches into the game, Klingler hit her fourth home run of the weekend, sending a flyball high into the wind to carry over the right-center wall. A few batters later, Flores made it 2-0 with an infield single, allowing Bates to score.
  • Second Inning: The Huskies scored two more in the second inning on a Reynolds double. The junior sent a liner over the leftfielder's head to the base of the wall to make it 4-0.
  • Fourth Inning: With a runner on third and two down, Reynolds came through again. This time, it was an RBI single to rightfield to add to the lead.
  • Sixth Inning: Reynolds launched her third home run of the year, a solo shot with two outs making it 6-0.
  • Seventh Inning: A sacrifice fly from Bates made it 7-0.
