Washington Heads To Utah For Five Games

Feb 17, 2021

Game Notes

SEATTLE - Now 5-0, the #2 Washington Huskies will stay on the road and head to St. George, Utah this weekend. Washington will play five games at this weekend's tournament, hosted by Dixie State. Washington's games against BYU and Dixie State will have a free video stream provided: there will not be video available for the other three games.

This will be Washington's second straight week on the road after starting the season in Las Vegas last week. The Huskies won all five games there, scoring almost ten runs per game.

PLAINLY PERFECT
Gabbie Plain started the year with a perfect game, joining Danielle Lawrie as the only Huskies ever to throw perfect games in the season opener. Plain and Lawrie are the only Huskies ever with multiple perfect games in their careers. Plain now has two perfect games and five no-hitters. The senior last allowed a run to score on March 1, 2020.

POWER BATS
Washington hit 13 home runs in its first five games as the offense erupted for 48 runs. Six times the Huskies have scored 40+ runs in the season's first five games under the leadership of Heather Tarr. The 19-13 victory over Southern Utah was the second-highest combined score in Washington history, behind on a 21-17 loss at Arizona in 2003.

R-BAY-I
Baylee Klingler recorded her 40th RBI as a Husky in exciting fashion, hitting a leadoff home run on Sunday. Klingler took just 30 games to reach 40 RBI in her Husky career, the fastest any Husky has ever reached the 40 RBI mark. The previous record was 42 games by Shawna Wright. Klingler, who led the Pac-12 in RBI in 2020, has driven in multiple runs in 11 of her 30 games as a Husky, with three 4-RBI days.

PEERLIS BATES
Sis Bates hit an even .500 on opening weekend, reaching base safely multiple times in every game. Bates became the 15th Husky ever with 250 career hits and the first to reach that mark since Taylor Van Zee. Bates is the third Husky in the last five years to reach that mark, joining Van Zee and Ali Aguilar in that regard. One more hit would move Bates to 12th, tying Dominique Lastrapes and Jennifer Cline. Since the start of the 2019 postseason, Bates has hit .495 with three hitless games and 17 multi-hit games.

GONE STREAKING
Sami Reynolds has stretched her on-base streak to 39 games, the second-longest in Husky history behind only Jaime Clark's 42-game streak in 2002. The last time Reynolds did not reach base safely in a game was May 9, 2019. She has five games with multiple walks during that streak, including two three-walk games. Reynolds has had multiple hits in 13 games.

WHAT DID UTAH DO TO YOU
In seven games against universities based in Utah, Gabbie Plain has thrown two perfect games and has allowed a run to score just once. Washington has won by run rule in three of those games. Against Utah schools, Plain has a 1.22 ERA with a 7.4 strikeout-to-walk ratio. She has struck out twice as many Utahn batters as she has allowed to reach base.

FLORES REACHING THE RECORD BOOK
Morganne Flores' next home run will be the 50th of her career, making her the fifth Husky to record 50 homers in their career. Flores would join Kristen Rivera, Jaime Clark, Ali Aguilar, and Kylee Lahners as Huskies with 50 career home runs. Flores is second in the country across all NCAA division in career home runs, behind only Brenna Busby of Division II's Cameron, who has 50. Eight hits would make her the 23rd Husky with 200, while 12 more RBI would make her the seventh with 200 RBI.
